This year dove opener was a great success. The three of us shot limits within a couple of hours. Scouting ahead and finding the right location was the key to our success on this hunt. We were fortunate that the drive was short and we immediately followed up an evening hunt that night. The only change that evening was bringing 3 loud and excited children with us. I have always said that if you intend to bring young kids do not expect much as far as success, that is if you measure success by how many birds you bag.

Try This for the Ultimate Tick Protection

I have been using this recipe for years on my outer garments and have had great success with this recipe as to the test of it’s effectiveness. The military I was told has used this recipe for its members to combat the problem of contracting Lyme disease. I have personally known a handful of people who have contacted Lyme disease from tick bites that they had received from hunts that took place within the Bay Area. The ingredient is Permethrin in a 10% solution. It can be purchased at any farm and livestock feed supply house. I have included a picture above so you will know what to look for on the shelf. Aerosol treatments will have an effectiveness of around a week and tend to leave an odor. This recipe will last 1 year or 50 washings, whichever comes first.

Like most of you, I have just sent off for my chance at California’s most desirable tags. July and August is always like Christmas for me. Waiting to hear if I had drawn a great tag from the 6 states I had applied for. The truth is I would rather stay in my home state and hunt close to home.
