Adrienne’s Blacktail

Adrienne’s Blacktail

As the B Zone archery deer season was approaching, my husband and I did our annual organization of our hunting gear. We were getting ready to leave for the weekend when I pulled my tags out. I was pleasantly surprised to find that what I thought was a regular B Zone tag was actually a late-season Blacktail archery tag (since I am the reporter of tag results in our hunting group, I’m not really sure how that happened).

Grizzly Island Tule Elk Hunt Results

We ended our Grizzly Island elk hunt with a bang! Haha. I was acting as Bills guide/spotter on his hunt. We discussed prior to the hunt that we would do whatever it takes to be successful and bag a big bull (to be Relentless). Our hunt began before sunrise working our way into an area we could sit and glass.

Grizzly Island Elk Hunt

Our countdown to our Grizzly Island Elk hunt is almost here. The hunt dates are Sept. 22-25. Although I was not the lucky on to have drawn the tag I am very lucky to get to accompany my hunting partner Bill on his expedition. We have been filming everything leading up to this hunt and hopefully will get good footage of the hunt. According to the DFG there are 35 branched antlered tule elk in the Grizzly island herd. Over the last couple weeks we scouted a couple times and found just over 20 of these elk. It has been thrilling hearing the bugles of these animals and watching them during the rut. The elk during this period have been extremely vocal and fighting to establish their dominance. This has been a great experience especially so close to home. We have filmed many of these elk and we are studying the footage to pick the bull we want to hunt. So far there a few that we hope will present themselves during our hunt. We want to make sure to get one of the big bulls since getting this tag is like winning the lottery. This morning we visited the taxidermist and made plans to care for our hopeful trophy. I will try to update very soon with some of our scouting footage and hunt plans.

Preparing for a killer Season!

Preparing for a killer Season!

Duck clubs are a lot of work.  The property we hunt in the CA delta is no different.  This past weekend we spent time sinking duck blinds, mowing, and moving dirt.

My First Buck

My First Buck

by Scott Walker
When I was a boy, I hunted with my father several times without really seeing anything nor having the opportunity to take a deer. However, time keeps moving forward and before you know it I got married and had kids – life just got in the way. My last hunt, before life, was back in 1985. Going forward, four years ago two of my buddies, Kim and Chuck, asked if I’d like to hunt with them. I said yes.

Dove Opener Success

Dove Opener Success

This year dove opener was a great success. The three of us shot limits within a couple of hours. Scouting ahead and finding the right location was the key to our success on this hunt. We were fortunate that the drive was short and we immediately followed up an evening hunt that night. The only change that evening was bringing 3 loud and excited children with us. I have always said that if you intend to bring young kids do not expect much as far as success, that is if you measure success by how many birds you bag.

Wilderness Bear…

Wilderness Bear…

Well like many of you, I set out Friday after a long work week to hunt the opener in California for Deer and Bear. I headed for a trailhead I have not bee in over 6 years in hopes of seeing something different from the years past. With a 4 hour drive and about a 5 mile pack I was there. I set up a dry camp in the top of a basin, went and fetched some water and off to glassing for the evening. Shockingly, I glassed up 5 other hunters and about 20 does. Needless to say I didn’t sleep well.

Scouting: 40 in 48

Scouting: 40 in 48

The title sums up a very tough scouting trip I just returned from.  One of my hunting buddies and I hiked 40 miles in 48 hours in one of California’s Wilderness’.  It wasn’t planned that way, but when your looking for new country to hunt, you do what you have to do.

The idea behind Relentless 365 originated in the fall of 2008. Two brothers, Brent and Cole Miller started brainstorming about forming a California based, California only hunting magazine. They felt California had been overlooked by many other publications and is very underappreciated by many sportsman for too long. Their goal was to bring a very high end, high quality publication to the outdoorsman of California.
